Shining a light on Tech / Data careers

Ask the average person what comes to mind when they think about the Tech sector. They might think about Maths or a person sitting in a dark basement full of servers. They might also think about coding. Fewer people might realise that the Tech sector is much broader than that – from analysing data to problem-solving and predicting trends, Tech has a lot to offer… and not just to Maths enthusiasts! Unfortunately, not everyone is aware that a career in Tech can be varied and broad or it’s open to all, from all backgrounds, ethnicities and walks of life. As the world becomes more Tech-focused, there’s huge opportunities for long and meaningful careers.

We’ve teamed up with Open Palm (www.openpalm.org.uk) to support their employability course, WYZ For Work. Open Palm is a UK-based charity tackling inequality through free educational programmes aimed at Ethnic Minority under-18s.

Ralph McBaiden, Co-Founder and Trustee of Open Palm commented “The Tech industry is one of the fastest growing in terms of future jobs. Now, more than ever, it is important that young people understand what jobs are available to them, especially those from under-represented backgrounds.”

In our video, we explore the Data sector, clear up some common myths and share just how exciting a career in Data can be.

WYZ For Work teaches skills for career success and enables participants to gain an accreditation and be able to apply for work experience with our partners.

We are delighted to be partnering with Open Palm to offer work experience opportunities. Complete the WYZ For Work course to be eligible to apply for work experience with us. To enrol on the free WYZ For Work course, visit www.openpalm.org.uk/wyz
